Help installing SUSE SLES 11 under z/VM 5.3 and hercules 3.7 (too. HERCULES 3.7 64 z/VM 5.3.0. As i am installing VM 370 R6. It would require decades of effort. Hercules Version 3: TCP/IP networking with Hercules Hercules version 3: TCP/IP networking with Hercules This page describes how to set up TCP/IP connectivity between a Hercules machine and the outside world. Since Hercules runs as a user process under the control of a driving system (usually Linux/x86 or Windows), it does not have direct access to the driving system's network adapter. This presents a problem in establishing connectivity between the network and the TCP/IP stack of an operating system running under Hercules. But thanks to a technique originally demonstrated by Willem Konynenberg, it is possible to establish a virtual point-to-point link between the TCP/IP stack running under Hercules and the TCP/IP stack of the driving system. After all, you have it licensed to run on Hercules, do you not? -- Binyamin Dissen Director, Dissen Software, Bar & Grill - Israel Should you use the mailblocks package and expect a response from me, you should preauthorize the dissensoftware.com domain. I very rarely bother responding to challenge/response systems, especially those from irresponsible companies. I pre-defined 3390-3 Volumes for 510RES, 510PAG, 510SPL, 510USR, 510W01, and 510W02. There should be a User Guide that describes the process on the 1st DVD (if I remember right). You need to define a Console at 0020. Then define the first DVD as Tape 181 for HERC. You can then IPL 181 to load the Tape. Use LOADPARM CONS=020. The Tape image contains the FMT and DDR images for all the volumes previously defined. It does take a little time to create the 3390 images, so be patient. I then used HERC utilities to convert to a compressed Disk image. It took a little bit of time to get it going, but was then easy to do. _____ From: [mailto:] On Behalf Of teamloser1 Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2006 SYSN AM 7:43 To: Subject: [hercules-390] Install z/VM in Hercules from DVD Is there a link or FAQ out there that explains how to install z/VM 5.1 on Hercules from the DVD? You can search the archieves but the gist is you CAN NOT install from DVD on hercules The Media is not the problem when installing VM 5.1+ From DVD, the DVD installs only support the use of the HMC's Intergrated 3270 Console (SYSG) which is not currently emulated by Hercules. If you have the TAPE or CDROM media you can install using either the SYSC console or a regular 3270 console Doug ----- Original Message ----- From: teamloser1 To: Sent: Tuesday, November 21, 2006 10:42 AM Subject: [hercules-390] Install z/VM in Hercules from DVD Is there a link or FAQ out there that explains how to install z/VM 5. My understanding is its a function of the OSA ICC they use but I do not believe that it is documented.
